do not tip the delivery boy!
Just got this tattoo on Monday. It's located on the outside of my right leg, and it's a little larger than the size of a credit card. The tail wraps around to the back of my leg and that's why there's that odd blue line in the pic because it's actually two pictures faded together.

It was done by Christine Nelson at No Ka Oi Tiki Tattoo on South Street in Philadelphia.

golden spiral tattooCollapse )

hey guys! i'm new, and this is my first tattoo. it's a logarithmic spiral (within a golden rectangle), which you find everywhere in science and art. galaxies swirl in this pattern, birds descend from the air in this pattern...it's everywhere. the proportions of the golden rectangle that my tattoo is of is dictated by the golden ratio (phi) which is ~1.618:1. no matter how large or small the spiral is, it maintains its shape, so it is a symbol of constancy and perseverance. the golden ratio is frequently found in things we find to be aesthetically pleasing and frequently dictate the way things grow (like seeds on a sunflower or rows of spikes on a pineapple), so to me it is the unifying factor for science and beauty.

The article is up.

Geek Ink: Tattoos for the Nerdy and Geeky #1
"There is nothing more permanent or public like a Tattoo.  In the movie Eastern Promises with Viggo Mortensen, one character explains that “Tattoos tell the story of your life.”  People you’ve lost,  places you’ve lived, things you’ve loved, obstacles you’ve over come.  They are living, breathing art."

Thank you for submitting your tats, and if I didn't get to you do not worry there will be another article shortly.

I'm not sure if this is okay, but I figured it was pretty geeky, so :)

I'm looking to get a tattoo that says "geek" in binary. I'm just having a hard time finding fonts that would work (it's going to be fairly small, so I don't want lines/dots inside the zeros to avoid the ink bleeding). So, do any of you have tattoos of binary that you could show me, or maybe even fonts that may work well? I do plan on going to my artist, but I'd like to have a rough idea of what kind of font I want before I go in. Thank you!

B5 tattoos?

Hey :) I'm a total noob to the B5 series (I think that's attributable to not having cable growing up) - I'm almost done Disc 2 of Season 5, and then it's on to Origins.

Just wondering if anyone has any skin art as tribute to B5. I am flirting with the idea of a really nice line drawing of a Starfury on the back of my neck, but I don't know if there are those who will think it's a tie fighter (I sure hope not :s)

I'm thinking that this digital model, courtesy of ~Foxer on DeviantArt, would make a great basis for it.

Love to see anything you guys have :) and feel free to rant or rave about my idea, as you see fit ;)

August 22nd, 2009

Hi there! I'm a now 27 year old native of New York and I got my very first tattoo this past April/May. After years and years of planning and lusting after it, I decided it was time I got off my bum and got my Harley Quinn tattoo. She has been a part of my life since she first appeared in the Batman cartoon when I was young. I'm not saying that I embody everything that she is persay, but I can definitely sympathize with her.

It is located on my left thigh.

Here's to more geek tattoos in the future, because I have a whole slew of them I want..but I'm terribly picky! It took me 8 years to decide I wanted this one for crying out loud!

So. After a couple pictureless posts about finding a decent studio in LA, I'm back from California with mostly-healed work to show for it!

Sorry about the lighting in these, my house if funky and I'm taking pics off a Dell Mini. Pics beneath the cut are fairly SFW, unless bare thigh offends you.

For those of you out there who aren't sure, or who are straight up scratching your head: Yes. Yes, that is the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. On the top of my left thigh. Yes, I know it's an odd piece, and yes, I have a story.

I went to LA, on my first ever solo trip, clear across the country, for Botcon, the annual Transformers convention. I knew I wanted to get something done while I was out there to serve as a lifelong reminder of what wound up being the best week of my life. I've also been in a... Really dark place in my life the past couple years, and, at least for the week I was gone, it was like all of that just... Vanished. I learned that there really is a light, however small it might be, in every situation, no matter how dark. I wanted to get the Matrix done because of what it symbolizes in the Transformers mythos, and I wanted the quote because, well, it's possibly my favorite Autobot-centric quote ever, and it's deep in its own way. And it's about the Matrix, so it all goes together.

I'm beyond pleased with how it came out, as I was going for a more... Aged, not-quite-steampunkish look with it, and I feel that came across rather well. Done by Connor Garrity of Timeless Tattoo in Los Angeles, California. I'd recommend him, except for a couple small things: He's an EXTREMELY heavy-handed artist, and this piece was the most painful session I've ever sat through. I'm slightly concerned about a couple spots on this, around the outline and I'm still slightly bruised, but it's nothing my usual artist can't fix.

Oh yeah, I'm also the girl with the Decepticon leg sleeve in the works. Last time I posted pics, all I had done of my second big session on it was Skywarp's outline. Well, we finished him up a while back...

Thanks everyone for your kind words about my Frank Miller ink! Here is another piece Eric did for me a few years ago. Its Avatar the good wizard from Ralph Bakshi's animated classic "Wizards".

May 30th, 2009

I just visited Phoenix, and got to hang out with Eric, one of my oldest friends, who also happens to be an amazing tattoo artist. Frank Miller is one of my favorite artists and I've been wanting a tattoo of a piece of his art for years. The result? A beautiful piece designed after the "Molly's Escort Service" print from "Sin City"!
